An introduction from the business owner Peter Leversha.

Hi there and welcome to my business, Leversha Electrical.

I started Leversha Electrical after completing my apprenticeship in 1998, living in Ballarat at the time, I was unhappy with the level of electrical fires that were occuring in the old houses in the area.

Learning about the latest new technology at the time, safety switches (RCD's), I decided that I would try and help push this new technology into the older houses by installing them at a fair and reasonable price.
Whilst other contractors were charging an absolute fortune and telling their customers that they weren't that good, we decided after getting better at installing them, that they would become an absolute necessity.

I won't lie, it was an absolute nightmare at first, the older wiring caused a new phenomenon now known as 'nusance tripping'.
That's the new safety switch tripping for what we thought at the time was 'ghost tripping', an rcd tripped for no apparant reason in the middle of the night.

Through trial and error, we discovered that it was the old fridges, stoves and hot water units causing the trouble, but we never quite understood why, so we would protect all of the house and put these items on their own circuits.
These days, with newer and more modern test equipment, we have been able to discover that these old appliances could build up with moisture and trip when the morning frost would hit.
With modern more robust safety switches, better test equipment and properly insulated appliances, nusiance tripping is now all but a thing of the past, but it was our persistance in pushing forward with using safety switches that helped the Victorian government decide to make them mandatory not long after.

My experience as an apprentice.

I completed the first year of my apprenticeship with my brother in Castlemaine, we did a power of work, my brothers business won a solar industry award for one of our solar systems, we were years ahead of other companies.
I then completed my apprenticeship with Victec group training, working on projects such as rewiring the old treasury building, the new section of the state library, the powerhouse in Albert park and many multi-storey appartments.
I also wired the Harvey Norman/Office works building in Bell street and the McDonalds stores in Springvale and Preston.
I have even changed the massive 1000w light globe in the Cadbury Schweppes building at Albert park and these hands built the mechanical services switchboards for Crown casino.

My experience straight after my apprenticeship.

After my apprenticeship, I worked for a company in Altona, wiring new houses all over Melbourne. This was great experiance, learning how to wire, terminate and test houses from start to finish.

I then worked for an industrial service company based in Sunshine. With maintenance works carried out at Shell, Cryovac, Visyboard, Dunlop, Bradmill textiles and many many more.

The start of Leversha Electrical

Leversha Electrical started in Ballarat in 1998 and I primarily focused on the domestic market, however circumstances had me moving to Melton, where I continued and expanded the type of work that I was doing.
We were installing evaporative coolers and split airconditioners and it didn't take long before we had a contract to service the local Safeway refridgeration units. This was before fridgeys were their own trade in Australia.
I also managed to pick up a contract to wire the new Brumby's bakery in Croydon, it's been there a long time now without any major dramas, a testiment to solid design work I undertook at the time.

The end of Leversha Electrical

I had picked up a contract with HPM Australia repairing all of their faulty IXL tastics across the state, whilst this was a good contract to have at the start, it wasn't quite lucritive enough to outweigh the down fall in the market at the time.
Having to close the business for the lack of income was one of the hardest choices I ever had to make. I had failed as a business owner, despite thousands of long hours trying to get it to work.

Where I went next.

Having closed the business, I needed a job, the first to come along was as a maintenance electrician at Toll in Port Melbourne, it wasn't long before my industrial experience led me to become the maintenance supervisor there.

Still not over the loss of the business, I eventually needed to get away, so I took off to Scotland for a working holiday.
Upon my return, I landed the dream job, technical services at Sovereign Hill in Ballarat.
I loved that job, I was able to be creative in new special effects for their sound and light show. The only problem was, I wasn't earning enough money to save for a house.

My first venture in Western Australia.

I first came over to Western Australia in 2010, there was a mining boom happening over here and my friends invited me over to come and join in on it.
Knowing nothing about mining, I joined a local company in Joondalup as an electrical estimator.
The travel from Mandurah to Joondalup every day took it's toll, so I ended up giving the job away and returning to Victoria for family reasons.

I returned a year or so later and applied for a mining job, one of the blokes I had met working in Joondalup had got into mining himself and told me all the courses I needed to accomplish in order to make it happen.
After completing them, I spent the next 11 years in mining, happily going about my business until convid hit and my position in mining became untenable.

The re-launch.

After the plandemic, my finances have suffered immensely. So I decided that I will restart Leversha Electrical and go out on my own so that I am not at the whim of big business in order to make a living.

So here we go again!

Rest assured, you're in good hands and I am sure we will have a great working relationship together.

I aim to give our customers a great experience, and offer a range of affordable services, that is why our motto is: Giving you the power!!
